Developing a passion for natural care

Dr. Steve Palazzo

With his love of sports from playing college football and his love of anatomy and movement from his early career as an artist, Dr. Palazzo became interested in body mechanics early on in life. He considered physical therapy or chiropractic as a future career path. “I liked that chiropractic looked at the whole body. It’s a conservative, hands-on approach that involves giving people individualized care. Chiropractic was the perfect solution for helping musculoskeletal issues without using medicine or surgery.”

After attending SUNY Stonybrook near his hometown in Long Island, NY, Dr. Palazzo attended the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree.  Shortly after graduating from UBCC, he was approached by his alma mater to teach as an Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences where he instructed future chiropractors on advanced chiropractic adjusting, rehabilitation procedures, and clinical management. As a professor, he furthered his academic career by publishing in textbooks and lecturing around the continental United States, all while continuing to see patients in his private practice. His studies led him to develop an integrative model of health care that he considers his biggest accomplishment. He has researched manual and soft tissue rehabilitation techniques used all over the world, which led to the creation of his practice model.

Currently, he maintains his own private practice while having the privilege of being the only chiropractor employed by the University of North Carolina (UNC) healthcare system and the first and only chiropractor to become a member of the UNC Physicians Network (UNCPN).

Staying Involved and Active

Dr. Palazzo is the first-ever chiropractor to be a member of the University of North Carolina Physicians Network and is a chiropractic at the UNC clinic at Cisco in the Research Triangle Park. As of 2019, he is also a member of the American Academy of Spine Physicians.

His additional memberships include:

When he isn’t with patients, Dr. Palazzo can usually be found spending time with family, including his gorgeous wife and three awesome kids. His hobbies include participating in sports (golf, softball, coaching his kid’s teams), reading, playing guitar, and figure drawing.

OUR STORY and OUR “WHY”

Since the beginning  of history -in every part of the world-humans have suffered from pain in our muscles and joints.

Throughout this time, we have tried many different remedies to alleviate this pain.  There are historical records of prayers, chants, elixirs, ointments and medieval devices that have been used to no avail.

More recently, advances in modern medicine (despite its many benefits to society regarding more serious conditions and injuries), has not done much better for common aches and pains.  Medical care’s reliance  mainly on dangerous prescription medicine, expensive diagnostic imaging, and invasive surgery has proven to be ineffective for the majority of muscle and joint pain that affects modern society.  With its high costs, risky side-effects, pain medicine addiction, promotion of chronic conditions and lack of communication between specialist, some say this model has actually made things worse.

That is, until a REVOLUTION happened!

In the 1990s, a growing number of experts around the world, led by world renowned orthopedic surgeon Gordon Waddell MD,  started to realize that we’ve been treating spinal pain ALL WRONG!

They determined that our focus on structural diagnoses & treatments for over a century has led us down the wrong path.  The right path based on modern  research and clinical experience pointed toward functional diagnoses & treatments:

“…chiropractic, physical therpist and other manual therpist were correct…”

It was around the time of this “Revolution” that Dr. Steve Palazzo held the position of Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic (his Alma Mater)  where he became immersed in this new paradigm. He not only taught this new framework in his classes, he applied this model to his private practice, Integrative Chiropractic.

Through continuous formal and self-education, he has been perfecting and adapting his practice ever since. Using the latest evidence-based functional tests and treatments, Integrative Chiropractic has combined a unique blend of chiropractic, manual therapy, rehabilitative exercises, Deep Tissue Laser, nutritional supplementation, massage (and more!), to provide our community the most effective conservative, non-surgical  treatment for common spine and extremity conditions to help our patients and their families & friends…
